FRIDAY POTPOURRI: HAVING THIS CROSS IS A PLUS

The Greek Cross (as it appears on the Greek flag) also known as St. George’s cross is the basis for several other crosses. It does not so much represent the Passion of Christ as it does the Church. It is made of two lines of equal length dissected in the middle like a plus sign. (+)

It is used as a symbol on many nations’ flags. As with Greek flag, it denotes a connection with the Church, and as is the case with Greece, a very long association with the Church. The original floor plan of Saint Peter Basilica by Donato Bramante was to be an enormous Greek cross but it was changed to appear more like the common Latin cross.
