You should reprint some it ...Good article, Father. You should reprint some it in the bulletin. Msgr Pope has disturbing stats, comparing 1970 with now. He overlooked one important event in 1970, though. That was the year the Latin Mass was now gone and the Novus Ordo was implemented. And it has been downhill ever since. For those of us who around then, it was a time of turmoil and confusion. I remember friends and family who walked away from the Church and never looked back. The Church is the Mass and the Mass is the heart. It(Mass) was gutted, diluted, and protestantized beyond recognition. Keep in mind 6 protestant ministers were in on the committee for the "new mass" a new mass that was to increase attendance and make it relevant to the modern world. 50 years later, I have been.through masses that are banal and dead, masses that killed the mystical beauty and spirituality of the holy sacrifice of the blessed sacrament. In so many cases, we are left with masses that seem to stem from a bowling alley lounge act. Thank God for Benedict XV1 who brought back the Latin Mass. It is ever growing at St Seb's. We have people coming from Portage, Stark, and Medina counties as well as all over Summit.
Perhaps there is light at the end of the tunnel. I see a lot of Catholics are hungry for a return to dignity and tradition in the Mass and not just in the Latin Mass. There is no reason why the novus ordo has to be so devoid of beauty. Perhaps those numbers will be on the rise soon. Wouldn't that be a blessing?
Dick Spanglernoreply@blogger.com
