SVW, Regarding your question (why would I prefer reading a book to searching the internet), I want a thoroughly researched opposing viewpoint in summary form, including footnotes. Having completed my graduate degree in 1975, I learned to study and do research the old-fashioned way (reading actual books and journal articles). At this late date, I have neither the time nor the desire to learn how to do scholarly research (i.e., beyond “Google”) on the internet. Thus I prefer to rely on my favorite “search engine,” the librarian.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5745814378416915364.post-71766308045666591682008-08-21T03:33:00.000-07:002008-08-21T03:33:00.000-07:00Ok, apples to apples then...What about the protest...Ok, apples to apples then...

What about the protestant Mega Churches? The ones who rake in millions of dollars every week? I'd have to say it is that for many of us, because to put a tiara on Peter the fisherman seems a tad ludicrous. On the other hand, it is to represent our royal link to Christ the King and His Kingdom.. but we do -- since we have the Beatitudes as judge of our spirituality -- have to understand it is a spiritual Kingdom, not one of this world, so the bishopral wealth is a problem. It has been hard for me (and you and others, no doubt) to see some clergy living in extraordinarily well-fed warmth in big ol' empty rectories with attached big ol' empty parish halls, while other folks are shivering themselves to exhaustion under the bridges and out in the woods. These aren't the State's duty; they are the obligation of those who are Christ's and charged to act in His name. The early Church was to care for the widows and children. These today are the widows and children. The Church is to hold everything in common, as did Her first apostles. Jesus, by His chosen total humility -- born in a stable to folks who could only offer the two turtledoves, and His coming to His society's struggling souls first -- is one with the poor. Whatever we do to the least of these... Yes. There are indeed some lingering problems, and words really do not fix them.. but I've come to the conclusion that when something bugs me deeply about another, it's actually something in myself that I am addressing, something I need to do something about in my own life. Change, whether for self or other(s), begins with me. But not as a maverick entity--rather, as one of the whole, per Christ's own prayer.

(Carol)Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5745814378416915364.post-15846919258337816242008-08-19T21:21:00.000-07:002008-08-19T21:21:00.000-07:00gee pat thats a very good point. I have attended 2 of Greg's Bible Studies using Scott Hahn's books and they have been fabulous. We just finished Bible & the Mass - and it has greatly improved my understanding of the Mass.

Greg attends seminars & trainings in Steubenville, OH, where Scott Hahn's company is located. Greg, himself, is a wealth of information and a solid Catholic.

I highly recommend any of these Bible studies...even for those who are solid Catholics - there's a wealth of knowledge and I guarantee you'll learn something in each of the 10 classes.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-5745814378416915364.post-81137452748326892252008-08-19T08:02:00.000-07:002008-08-19T08:02:00.000-07:00Atheists and agnostics are also free to respond to...Atheists and agnostics are also free to respond to the poll.
